Points & Miles Strategy

How I fly Upper Class
on a normal salary

The cards I actually carry, the programmes worth your time, and the exact strategies I use to fly business class for a fraction of full price. No theory — just what actually works.

Where to start

Companion Vouchers

The easiest way to slash the cash cost of a premium cabin when used on the right route.

Credit Cards

The cards worth carrying, what each one does, and where the real value is.

Reward Flights

How to spot good redemption value and avoid wasting points on bad routes.

Lounge Access

How to get into better lounges without always flying first class.

Credit cards I actually use

The strategy is not about collecting every card. It’s about choosing the few that unlock the trips you actually want to take.

American Express Platinum

Strong for lounge access, travel benefits and premium perks — expensive, but useful when you travel enough.

Virgin Atlantic Reward+

The companion voucher card. This is the one that helped turn Upper Class into a realistic booking.

Amex Gold

A good starter card for building points before committing to a premium annual fee.

British Airways Premium Plus

Useful for Avios redemptions and BA companion voucher strategy.

The voucher that changed everything

The Virgin Atlantic Reward+ credit card comes with an annual companion voucher — one of the most valuable travel benefits available to UK cardholders. Here’s how I used mine to pay £900 for Upper Class.

The voucher lets a companion join you on an award booking for a reduced number of miles or cash co-pay. On the right route, this effectively halves the cost of a business class booking.
